WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission has finalized new enforcement guidelines penalizing online dating operators that deploy simulated artificial profiles to induce user subscriptions, commonly referred to as ‘ghost engagement’.
Under the revised rules, platforms must clearly disclose any algorithmic automated accounts and provide one-click cancellation mechanisms equal in simplicity to their initial sign-up flow.
